Portugal Day was held in Kennington Park yesterday. Portugal Day is an even larger version of
Madeira Day (an already busy event), with more Portuguese food, themes and fun for all the family. The event took up a large part of the park, and I estimate that there were a couple of thousand people present. I even spotted coaches, from as far afield as Bournemouth, parked on Kennington Park Road. For some reason, there was security on all of the entrances to the park, frisking Bollinger from some, and Heineken from others!
Lambeth alone is home to a 27,000 strong Portuguese community, which means that custard tarts are widely available in Vauxhall (hurrah!).
I'm afraid I didn't manage to spend as long there as I hoped (it was very very busy), but I've taken a couple of photos of the event. If you want to view to more and better pictures, take a look over
here on the Demotix website.
