Ashes cricket reminder to SE11

Due to the this weekend's (22nd - 23rd August) closure of Vauxhall tube and the cricket Ashes to be held at the Oval, it's likely that Kennington and Oval tubes will be deluged with people trying to get to the Oval.

Oh, I also saw a sign at Kennington tube today to say that Kings Cross St Pancras is not open to trains on the Northern line this weekend either.

So, SE11 people, it might be time for a weekend away (obviously, after you've visited the Oval Farmers market on Saturday morning)... I'm hoping to go and visit the cake stand this week where there are rumours that extra cakes are being baked!

Well I am an SW9 person and we deliberately moved to the area because of the cricket. Dont worry we also love the friendly neighbours, the Farmers Market, Kennington Park, fab curry houses, and the Oval Lounge. But a huge game like this brings real excitement to the area, not to mention plenty of business. We also have tickets to Saturday! So stay around and enjoy the atmosphere...dont worry winter isnt far away when we will sink back into obscurity!

I get a bit sick of the bodily excretions that the cricket fans like to leave outside my flat after too much excitement and booze...

But in general, do feel free to ignore the whinging, I just like a good moan :) I know the Oval is good for the area (and the new hotel, which I blogged about a while ago will be too). Hope you're enjoying SW9!

Is the Ashes also the reason that Elephant and Castle, Kennington Park Road and Kennington Road are closed - I noticed these signs at E&C roundabout but didn't know why these roads would be closed...

Thanks for your comment. It appears that it's not the Ashes, but a march against knife crime that will lead to the closure of the roads around the Elephant. I've just posted on ithere
