Residents reported a disturbance at Hurley House (part of the Cotton Gardens Estate) on Kennington Lane at about 7pm last night. Police arrived at the Kennington tower, and sealed off the property, denying residents entry to and exit from their homes in Ebenezer, Fairford and Hurley House. According to an eye witness, the incident lasted about three hours. Large numbers of police were drafted in to guard the entrances to the building. A helicopter and armed reinforcements were brought in as backup.
The South London Press has confirmed that a
woman in her 30s was stabbed but is in a stable condition. One commentator (see below) noted that a female suffered multiple stab wounds. I'll update this entry once further information becomes available.
Last year, in May, a 22 year old male was stabbed at
Fairford House on the same estate..

Don't worry what happened babes, it's not your concern x
Well I am interested and concerned in the violent crime that happens nearly every day in London. Too many people close their eyes to any crime etc "I don't give a sod because it was not me" attitude.
They will be the first to cry and moan when it happens to THEM.
I do get involved and not walk the other side of the street...

I am amazed to how wrong your report is, as a resident of Cotton Gardens Estate SE11 whom amongst others were refused entrance for our own safety to our homes last night for well over 3 hours. This was due to alleged stabbing of a woman living at Hurley House not Ebenezer House.
To give you an idea of how serious the police were addressing this incident, they had armed reinforcements, air support and police officers guarding all entrances and fire escapes as they continued a mass search for a man assumed to be hiding on the estate.
Today I had conformation that the woman known to me is in unstable conditions following repeat knife wounds. From all the residence of Cotton Gardens Estate SE11 we send our prayer of speedy recover to this woman and family who are also suffering from this incident.
Thank you to the second anonymous for the corrections you submitted.
I'm a local resident lurker, not a journalist. I don't get privileged access to police sources, and I heard from another resident on the estate that the incident was at Ebenezer House. Unless I say otherwise, much of the information I receive is second hand, so correcting information is a collaborative efford sometimes.
I read your tweet just after posting my reply and glad to learn that this women is now stable. I understand that your source of information is second hand and appreciate your concern. I disagree with first anonymous as it is an easy route to take in avoiding issues around use as not to upset our way of living in a bubble! But I agree there are incidents that should be public knowledge if the public has been affect without clarification of what possible dangers they may be exposed to!
I have just looked out of my window overlooking address of incident and confirm it is very quiet and the estate is as if it had not happened. This is a strange feeling taking into account the disarray we all were in last night...
Thanks second anon.
I agree that incidents which affect members of the public should be well reported (good news as well as bad news). This is slightly tricky if the incidents are domestic incidents, since the question of individual privacy is important too.
I do try quite hard to stay the correct side of the line in this regard, and not to speculate or get personal, but if I do overstep (I really only regret one post that I made, which I've now deleted from the blog), I will endeavour to make corrections. In that sense, I hope that the blog is different from a newspaper, which, once printed, cannot be amended or added to.
Think you do a great job of keeping us all up to date on what's going on. And basically get the balance right.
I still do not know what happend. i just heard that a woman was stabbed several times. Was it a robbery gone w terribly wrong?
I pray that the lady who was stabbed is ok and recovering well. I really hope there are no children involved.
she is fine now
