At 11pm after returning home from a dinner at Pico Bar & Grill two of us were followed by 3 youths and then another 3 youths started to walk towards us. When we all intersected they started beating us up. We were pushed to the ground, kicked in the head and all over the body.

I kept shouting "what do you want" but they just keep kicking us. After a beating they started demanding wallet, phone, etc. I would have given that to them beforehand if they'd asked.

The police I dealt with said they were a specialist unit that dealt with muggings and local gangs. They thought it may be a gang initiation thing - attack and rob someone and you can be part of our gang. The Police seemed to think they may have gone to Hidden Nightclub on Tinworth St but they weren't outside when we checked.

We weren't able to give good descriptions but the Police said they had good CCTV in Spring Gardens (presumably the MI6 satellite building) and were going to try the Queen Anne pub CCTV but I don't hold out much hope they'll ever get caught.

This attack was on Glasshouse Walk, SE11 - the same street where the black kid was murdered by a gang in August last year, so I guess we were lucky it wasn't worse.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614832110829270140.post-62653713601716311452010-04-05T10:09:08.444+01:002010-04-05T10:09:08.444+01:00P, I think I see what you're asking.
I'...P, I think I see what you're asking.

I'm being partially rhetorical when I ask about whether organisations are representational because I genuinely don't think they can be.

There is something about the way "official" organisations are constituted which means that the people who join them are never going to be the same people as those who join gangs.

I entirely agree with your point about a fictitious past, and I'm not sure that such a time ever existed within dense metropolitan areas. However, when I hear people in their fifties and sixties speak about London suburbs in the post-war era, 1950-2960, I do think it sounds as though there was more social cohesion. Perhaps that's a romantic view, and difference was swept under the carpet, or existed outside of such communities.SE11 Lurkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14883634895974771036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614832110829270140.post-86792006733256107292010-04-04T19:19:38.945+01:002010-04-04T19:19:38.945+01:00What you write makes perfect sense to me and witho...What you write makes perfect sense to me and without hopefully being patronizing, is really well written. However, you ask "how much these organisations can represent the entire local community", but surely the fact they don't is because we live in a relatively free democracy where actually it is nigh-on impossible to represent an area where we are given the space to express ourselves and show differentiation. One shouldn't give up on being inclusive, but I think it's also important not to mourn some fictitious past that looked more inclusive where actually it just meant that difference was deemed unacceptable or swept under the carpetAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01090809404675933568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614832110829270140.post-52619894744440585502010-04-01T18:00:25.491+01:002010-04-01T18:00:25.491+01:00The Mirror reports that the gang which killed the ...The Mirror reports that the gang which killed the 15 year old in Victoria Tube station is from Kennington...

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2010/03/28/tube-stab-pupil-15-lured-by-gang-girl-115875-22143683/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614832110829270140.post-56626359510361292832010-03-31T23:48:41.885+01:002010-03-31T23:48:41.885+01:00I am declaring for SW8 Cripes, whose gang sign you...I am declaring for SW8 Cripes, whose gang sign you can do AND still ride a bike...

Kennington being on the up means a two handed gang sign...no good on my grifter.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614832110829270140.post-11839071479649010092010-03-31T13:59:35.210+01:002010-03-31T13:59:35.210+01:00I agree that it's doubtful that local gang mem...I agree that it's doubtful that local gang members would want to join a predominantly white middle class organisation like the kennington association.
